Fonte Vetica is exposed to strong winds and sudden weather changes. Always check avalanche reports in winter.

Access

Getting to Fonte Vetica

Reachable from Castel del Monte via a scenic road climbing toward Campo Imperatore.

  • Large parking area near Rifugio Racollo
  • Road closed during heavy snow
  • No winter services

Beautiful ascent on skis starting from the Mucciante area in Fonte Vetica, reaching the saddle that leads to the Desiati bivouac. Suitable for summer hiking, less recommended for snowshoes in mid‑winter. Stunning scenery and great fun on the descent. Useful information for ski mountaineering around Fonte Vetica – Monte Camicia and the Campo Imperatore plateau from the Castel del Monte side. Route type: Hiking for experienced walkers (Difficulty E – Moderate)

Starting point: Mucciante area.
