Description

The Vera Springs

The Vera Springs are located in the hamlet of Tempera, part of the municipality of L’Aquila, at the foot of Mount Cagno. Here the Vera River is born, one of the clearest and purest waterways in Abruzzo, fed by karst springs emerging directly from the ground.

The trail is short, mostly flat, and suitable for all visitors. It follows the riverbank through shaded areas, wooden footbridges, and restored historic mills. The water is cold and exceptionally transparent throughout the year.

Trail Description

Start – Tempera Parking Area

The trail begins near the main parking area of Tempera. A sign marks the entrance to the nature path.

Along the Vera River

The easy gravel path runs alongside the river. The flowing water accompanies visitors with small cascades and natural pools.

The Mill and the First Springs

After approximately 15 minutes, you reach a restored mill. This is where the first visible karst springs emerge from the ground.

The Main Springs

A few minutes further along the trail, you arrive at the main spring area, a wide wetland where the water rises from multiple points.

Note: The water remains very cold throughout the year.
